“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’’” – Matthew 19:26
Update from Honduras and Guatemala
The Lord continues to open doors to bring discipleship to more children and youth in Central America. Recently, two strategic trips took place, one to Guatemala and another Honduras, both countries full of potential and also with unique challenges. In Guatemala, personal contact has been key for progress. In Honduras, where a strong network is already in place, the focus has been on strengthening and expanding the ministry. Each visit had a distinct purpose, yet both reflect our desire to walk alongside churches and faithfully support them in fulfilling the Great Commission.
Guatemala
From May 22 to 27, we made a strategic visit to Guatemala that allowed us to open new doors and plan the next steps for the new fiscal year. We began with a Discipleship Forum for organizational leaders where we shared about Awana’s work in the country. In the following days, we held important meetings with leaders from the Baptist Convention of Guatemala and Prince of Peace. We confirmed plans for another Discipleship Forum with 40 pastors on August 21, as well as a Directors’ Training (DT) in September. We also hosted an updated DT for the Truth Seekers program with 11 churches from the Biblical Presbytery, one of our oldest partners in the country.
We met with the Compassion Guatemala team and scheduled three Discipleship Forums for August 18 to 20 to reach 40 churches interested in implementing Awana. Although we were unable to meet with the Evangelical Alliance due to circumstances beyond our control, we passed on information about the ministry and hope to reconnect with them soon. This trip was essential for strengthening relationships and planning trainings that will open the way for new networks in Guatemala.
